Though those of us who call PetsMart a home away from home might argue that every week is Pet Week, this week is actually officially National Pet Week.The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA created the holiday of sorts in 1981 to promote responsible pet ownership, celebrate the human-animal bond, and promote public awareness of veterinary medicine.
All great causes. Maybe we pet-lovers can observe the holiday by giving our dogs and cats an extra head-rub, remembering to book a preventive exam at the vet or maybe making a donation to a local animal advocacy organization.
